SALUG's "Bring in a computer which runs linux however it does not look like a computer" competition

Now I have to say this is one LUG meeting I'm sorry I will miss.

If you've talked to me in the last couple of day's you'll know that I'm completely taken by Edelweiss by Pius Giger aka Lessdegrees. What Can I say, I'm a girl who loves when someone breaks the design rules. After all, don't we have enough black boxes in our lives?

The Best Sources for Free Unix and Linux Education Online

New Linux and Open Source users can be a double edged sword for any user group.

First you strive to get the word out about your favorite software titles, but then you've got to address the issue of bringing new users up to speed.

I did Stumble across this brief list of "The Best Sources for Free Unix and Linux Education Online" and wondered what other resources were out there?

I'm looking for Something between RTFM and and a formal university degree that can be used as a resource for new FLOSS users.

Any Ideas?

Hi my name is Brian and I'm an Open Source Software addict...

I've been advocating FOSS adoption to anyone that would listen for years now and I've learned a few things along the way. I'll be sharing these lessons in future posts and I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences as well.

My first foray into Open Source was trying out different Linux distributions on older hardware I had lying around. I wanted to test the water before I jumped in completely. After a few unsuccessful attempts I settled on Slackware mainly because the Internet connection worked right away. I was hooked from that point on.

Things have changed drastically since then. We now have the ability to boot into a live session on most hardware without any issues. There are many hurdles to get over but being able to try out an OS without any preparation of hardware is a major step to widespread adoption.
We're excited about the launching of groups and the forums at On-Disk and looking forward to your involvement and feedback.
